Having trouble with simple SNMP checks

Hello!

After I finally added all our servers to Zabbix I now try to add network switches and access points to the monitoring tool. In the first step I just want a simple availability and latency check.

I´m using the latest appliance and I thought I simply create a host and add an SNMP interface to it. Then I added the Generic SNMP template. But after a time the SNMP symbol goes RED and I get an email saying "No SNMP data collection". I used SNMPv1 and "public" as community string in the interface settings. fping is available on the server. I tried to google for help but only find a few old videos that might go to far.

Perhaps I´m making a simple error?

First step in setting up SNMP from a server is always to try the SNMP walk against the device using Net-SNMP. If you installed from packages then this is already installed. It is explained here: https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...itemtypes/snmp. For example, on my system I am running Ubuntu 20.04 so I would type:
snmpwalk -v 1 -c public 192.168.1.2
where 192.168.1.2 is the IP address of the device I am trying to talk to. If I cannot do the snmp walk like this then I need to fix that problem first,

Thanks! The good news is that net-snmp-utils was missing on the server. I installed that and then I could try a "snmpwalk -v 1 -c public ip_of_access_point" for a test. But the bad news is that it gives me a "Timeout: No response from localhost" error. Another try with our firewall was successful though.

Now I wonder if I´m on the right path. There is not much to configure on the Sophos access points. I simply need a ping to them... should be possible even without a successful snmpwalk, right?

Ok, I think I found it... create a host > set interface to agent > set IP address > add template ICMP Ping. From there I could even add Packet Loss, Latency and graphs :-)
