Zabbix 2.2 - Monitor host only via ping

I'm trying to add a host in Zabbix 2.2 and monitor it only via simple check (ping). The problem is that when I'm adding a host Zabbix (at least 2.2 version) needs that one of the "monitor interfaces" be selected (Agent, SNMP, JMX or IPMI) and the host that I'm trying to add doesn't support any of them. So, I can not create the host and off course I can not add the simple check item.

If I remember correctly in previous versions of Zabbix (1.8 I think) you can specify the host IP and then select or not one of the default agent interfaces (but the agent interface is not mandatory and then you can add a host only via its IP).

So, how can I do this in Zabbix 2.2? The chek in this case would be very simple (only a ping) but is the only that I can do with thist host, because it doesn't support SNMP.

As always, thanks a lot and best regards,

    Mauro.

I found how to do it:

You simple need to select "SNMP Agent" and configure the corresponding IP, but don't add any SNMP templates. Thus the server doesn't try to check the host via SNMP.

Later yo need to add items using simple check (in my case I define a template with various "simple check" items), and that's all.

Honestly this way to do it seems a little strange to me. I wonder if this is the "most correct way" or I'm doing something wrong. I think that adding a "no agent" or "only simple check" option would be fine for this cases.

If any of you knows a better way to do this, any advice is welcome.

    Best regards,

    Mauro.
