    Hosts availibility shows wrong value

    Hello

I have created a host and an simple icmp check as an item on that host, but under configuration - hosts it says availibility unknown even though the icmp succeeds every time.

This means that when I add it to a screen it shows 1 host available, 0 unavailable and 8 unknown,

I dont know where the 8 unknown comes from since I only have 2 hosts in total in the system so far while learning.

So in short eh questions are 2

    1. Why does my icmp item not make my hosts available ?
    2. In the screen host info why do I see 8 unknown when I have only 2 hosts added ?

The host will be available, if the item "status" has the value 0.
If no agent is running on the host, then the type of the item should be simple check.

I am a little bit confused now, from the documentation

icmpping Checks if server accessible by ICMP ping 0 - ICMP ping fails 1 - ICMP ping successful One of zabbix_server processes performs ICMP pings once per PingerFrequency seconds.

so if as you say it returns 0 then it is available is totally the opposite of what the docs say?

my icmp ping returns 1 as per the documentation I dont understand why it would be available if it returns 0 ?

      Please explain further

        Status 0 means host available.
Status 2 means host not available.

Ping is a different story. (1 is pingable, 0 is not pingable)

You could use ping to check host availability.

          Hello

yes I am using ping to check host availibility, but I cannot get it to show as available in the host monitor screen, configure -> hosts

Is there no way to make it show up as available when using the icmp simple check ?

The servers that has agensts on they are reported as available just as I expect, but the "agentless" hosts that I just ping to check availibility they are all unknown in the availibility column under configure->hosts

I am also having the same issue with agent-less hosts. I'm trying to monitor the latency and availability of routers between our office and remote datacenters. The template uses icmppingsec and icmpping simple checks. What do I need to do in order to get the correct availability status?
