    Zappix SNMP Setup

    Hi all,

I'm thinking of replacing the tool we currently use in my company for monitoring our network with Zappix but i've been running in to a few problems...

I want to be able to monitor multiple servers (windows or linux) and routers using just SNMP. When I add the hosts I enter the SNMP port but can't see where to change the community name (we don't use 'public').

I've getting "Timeout while connecting to [10.1.0.62:161]" messages.

    Regards,

if you create an item with type "snmp agent" you will see a field snmp community.

ok thanks, i found the option and just did an SQL update to do them all at once.

I'm also interested in using WMI to monitor windows servers... does Zappix handle WMI ? I don't want to install the agent.

There is no standaard item-type in zabbix for this.

You could use zabbix_sender to send data from your wmi script to zabbix.

You could also install a zabbix agent, and define your own user-params with wmi-script in it.

            thanks for the reply.

If i understand this correctly, either way I need to install either the agent or the sender to do what I want ?

Looks almost impossible to do the different things i'd like without the agent

Before you put any OID in zabbix test it with snmpget. Sometimes you need to add extra .0 to oid or community string is different etc. You will get more detailed diagnostic. When it works then put it into proper template and assign it to the host.
