    Confusion about zabbix proxy.

    Hi!

My Zabbix setup is now up and running and i have installed a proxy in another network. I can't manage to see it alive in the zabbix-server GUI.

My question is: Do i create a new postgres database on the Zabbix-server at first? I have heard that it cannot be the same as the one that the server is using, so i have to create a new one called proxy_db. Then on the proxy in proxy-conf i will point to "proxy_db"?
Or do i create a postgres-database on the proxy itself so it will be standalone?

I have read the docs but i just can't understand the connection. Some guides just install sqlite on the proxy and running something else on the server.

    Thanks!

    5.0.12 LTS
    Postgres 13.

Hi, you can install the database wherever you like (*). Then you configure the Zabbix proxy accordingly. Zabbix proxy is just on application that needs a database to work.

My guess is that in most cases people install the proxy database on the proxy server.

    * Of course your network topology or policies can affect your decision. As usual with database-accessing applications, the database should be relatively close to the application (Zabbix proxy), latency-wise. Otherwise you will get performance problems.

Thanks! And what kind of data is stored on that database on the proxy? Info about connected hosts? Or is that kept on the database on the server"master"? Is it really only just so that the proxy will function correctly?

("Comment" does not work very well here.) Whatever data the proxy handles I guess, configs and temporary monitoring data. Zabbix server is responsible for ultimately saving the history and trend data anyway.

      Ok Thanks!

Found the following: All collected data is buffered locally and then transferred to the Zabbix server the proxy belongs to.
