    2.4 - free disk monitoring...

    Hi guys!

I've spent a day with Zabbix, and I'm slowly getting there.
However, there are constant little niggles that are doing my head in.

Like the current issue, there seems to be a hidden trigger for disk space monitoring, where 20% free triggers an alert...and I can't seem to be able to find where to adjust it (it's nowhere to be seen within the applied template).

    Can it be adjusted somehow?

    Rgds!

If you created a host and used a template like Template OS windows or Template OS linux, there are discovery rules in there which will create items and triggers for discovered file systems.

There are 2 approaches to resolving the 20% alerts that you do not want, edit this per-host, or for all discovered resources.

For host level edit the host. Go to configuration>hosts, select your host, and look in the triggers tab. Find the offending 20% rule and disable it, and create a new rule that is better.

For all hosts and discovered devices, go to configuration>templates select the template (like Template OS Windows) then to discovery rules, and then mounted file system trigger prototypes, and alter the trigger prototype to you liking.

Excellent, I've been clicking round like mad in the GUI trying to find the "trigger prototypes"...

So, the template will propagate the host with triggers, that can be altered on the host level for already created hosts?
(Adjusting the free disk trigger prototype to 10% would suffice for future servers. )

What I am looking for is to only have alerts for items that really need attention, the boy who cried wolf and all that...

      Thanks!

Not exactly but close. Editing the template or template discovery items should automatically change those values for all hosts. Each host then has a dependency on the template. If the value is not appropriate for a specific host, you can disable that on the host and create new.

For example you might find it more reasonable to uphold a default 10% threshold for all existing and future host definitions. But you might have one jumbo server where 10% is far too much, in which case for that server you would disable the 10% and create a new trigger for that specific host at say 2% or some such.

        I hope this helps,

You can also change the template to include a macro, such as this:

          {Template OS Linux:vfs.fs.size[{#FSNAME},pfree].last(0)}<{$DISKMINPCTFREE}

There may be several templates you need to change, SNMP, different OS's, etc.

The {$DISKMINPCTFREE} is a name I made up, and created under the macro options (Administration, General, Macros).

This sets the default, in my case I left it 20.

Then go to the hosts you have different needs for, and just create a macro for the host. It is similar to creating a new trigger but allows you to leave the template in place, so if changes are made to it, different LLD triggers created, etc.
