    Zabbix database size (again)

    Hi,

    My configuration:
    - Zabbix 1.1.2
    - Housekeeping config: 7 days for actions, 90 days for events
    - Number of (Windows) monitored hosts: 16 (planning 110)
    - Number of items: default ones + 25 new ones to check Windows services status
    - Number of triggers: same as items
    - Actions: 1 send message action for all triggers

2 days after installing Zabbix the database is around 200 Mb
My concern is about the database maintenance, and backup/restore in case my Zabbix box crashes.

My question: is it safe to manually empty history and history_uint tables since they are eating up 95% of the database size? Cleaning history for all items though Zabbix interface will have no effects on the database size...

    items influence on dbsize

    See Items:
    Update interval (in sec)
    Keep history (in days)

    Check housekeeper working:
    cat zabbix_server.log |grep Deleted |tail
015904:20061006:022853 Deleted 4384 records from history and trends
015904:20061006:032957 Deleted 4427 records from history and trends
015904:20061006:043059 Deleted 4329 records from history and trends
015904:20061006:053201 Deleted 4418 records from history and trends
015904:20061006:063304 Deleted 4332 records from history and trends
015904:20061006:073406 Deleted 4410 records from history and trends

I make Update interval -- bigger, Keep history -- shorter
And now I have db after 6 months, and it's not grow.

    Number of hosts (monitored/not monitored/templates/deleted) 84(70/0/14/0)
    Number of items (monitored/disabled/not supported)[trapper] 376(362/13/1)[0]
    Number of triggers (enabled/disabled)[true/unknown/false] 156(147/9)[3/0/144]

    ll /var/lib/mysql/ibdata1
    -rw-rw---- 1 mysql mysql 664797184 Oct 6 11:56 /var/lib/mysql/ibdata1

Yep but consider that my Zabbix installation is only 2 days old I just can't understand how Zabbix can collect such an amount of datas in such a short period

      - 1 028 006 records in history table
      - 1 531 491 records in history_uint table

Review your configuration. I'm sure you can monitor some things less frequently. I wouldn't worry about 100MB of history per day. It is 3GB
per month, or (only) 35GB per year. Remeber that this is detailed history! Database size is normally constant value provided you have reasonable housekeeper settings.

          Ok, I'll check this.
Regarding my previous question, is it safe to manually empty history and history_uint tables?

BTW, Zabbix is a great tool
