    Advice on Agent Version to install on hosts for my Zabbix 5.0 LTS deployment

    Hello Forum,

    I've installed Zabbix 5.0 LTS in our small office. I see on the Agent download page:

    Download Zabbix agents
    https://www.zabbix.com/download_agents?version=5.4&release=5.4.3&os=Windows&os_version=Any&hardware=amd64&encryption=OpenSSL&packaging=MSI&show_legacy=0
    Download and install pre-compiled Zabbix agents


    I can slect the version of agent I need based on the Zabbix Sever I've installed.

    Does the v5.4.3 agent version only work with the Zabbix Server 5.4? Is it recommended I use the v5.0.14agent version on my hosts tha report into my Zabbix 5.0 LTS server?

      If you are running Zabbix on GNU/Linux, you should use the packages. If you have already followed steps in

      Download and install Zabbix
      https://www.zabbix.com/download
      Zabbix is being downloaded over 4 000 000 times every year for a reason. Download and install Zabbix for free and try it yourself!


      you should be having an agent installed. If not, install package named "zabbix-agent".

      If you want it on other host just follow first step (2.a) and then install package named "zabbix-agent".

      The Agent download page is there for, let's say, less popular operating systems.

          Hello dimir ,

          Thank you for taking the time to reply. But I'm still unsure what the answer is to my question.

          I've installed Zabbix 5.0 LTS on Ubuntu 20.04
          I've installed Zabbix Agent 2 v5.0.14 on one of my Windows 10 x64 workstation.

          What I'd like to confirm is should I be using this v.5.0.14 or should I upgrade the Zabbix Agent 2 on this Windows 10 workstation to the newer agent version of v.5.4.3?

              You can use basically any agent version with Zabbix server. Even the newer version than Zabbix server. If there is not communication protocol change within the version difference, you're good. In your case there shouldn't be any problem, you can go ahead and upgrade the Zabbix Agent or leave it as it is, it will work in both cases. Newer agent usually just has some additional metrics. You shouldn't also be worried when server is LTS and agent is not.

                  Thanks very much dimir for confimring for me the version of the agent doesn't matter with relation to the version of the Zabbix Server.
