    hostgroups and templates

Its really confusing that hostgroups don't really do anything, when grouping hosts and templates to a hostgroup, why not allow the hosts to inherit all the templates assigned to it.

Another confusing thing is that removing a host from a group doesn't clear all its items, you have to always go to the template and unlink and clear

well, even if I remove one of the "hosts in" from the template the host still has everything the same, no items, etc. are unlinked or cleared. The purpose of groups is to have the children inherit the group settings, items, triggers, etc. in this case. So if hostgroups isn't it, why doesn't templates do it?

I think they should rename hostgroups to something else, it would be much more intuitive that way. Anyone whould think hosts belong to hostgroups which inherit all the settings.

It is obvious that you may want to have such behavior when you want to apply for example new version of some template which has no conflicts with old template. If unlinking template from host should cause automatically delete all old monitoring data such operation would be not possible to do.

This is why unlinking template from host only causes unlinking and delete or unlink and delete is causing delete history/trends data.
Both operation are doing exactly what you may expect. Isn't it?
