    Old Zabbix agent on New RHEL 8 OS

    Our Zabbix version is 3.2 and we have no plans of upgrading (yet?). The pandemic gave us more projects to prioritize. From the download center, it seems like the latest supported OS for RHEL is RHEL7. We are provisioning new RHEL 8 servers. Can we try to install the zabbix-agent-3.2.3-1.el7.x86_64.rpm installer on a RHEL 8 machine? It is asking for dependencies. I don't want to try to install them yet if the move is not feasible.

    Failed dependencies:
    libcrypto.so.10()(64bit) is needed by zabbix-agent-3.2.3-1.el7.x86_64
    libcrypto.so.10(OPENSSL_1.0.1)(64bit) is needed by zabbix-agent-3.2.3-1.el7.x86_64
    libcrypto.so.10(OPENSSL_1.0.1_EC)(64bit) is needed by zabbix-agent-3.2.3-1.el7.x86_64
    libcrypto.so.10(libcrypto.so.10)(64bit) is needed by zabbix-agent-3.2.3-1.el7.x86_64
    libssl.so.10()(64bit) is needed by zabbix-agent-3.2.3-1.el7.x86_64
    libssl.so.10(libssl.so.10)(64bit) is needed by zabbix-agent-3.2.3-1.el7.x86_64

    OR.... is it possible to install a newer agent version supporting RHEL 8 (ex. zabbix-agent-4.0.11-1.el8.x86_64.rpm) and still be able to communicate to Zabbix host version 3.2?

    Thank you!

      Zabbix 3.2 server and Zabbix 4.0 agent combination is not supported. If you really want to run Zabbix 3.2 agent on RHEL 8, you will need to build from source. Another option is to use Zabbix 3.0 agent. Unless you use the new features of Zabbix 3.2 agent, Zabbix 3.0 agent will also be able to get various metrics.
