vCentre and Zabbix 5.4 - Incorrect username and password

    Hello everyone,

I am relatively new to Zabbix and VMware, not an especially accomplished Linux user (we all got to start somewhere). I am trying to setup Zabbix to monitor vSphere, which I believe will automatically create Zabbix hosts for each ESXi Host and so on.

    The setup:
    • Ubuntu 20.04 server
    • Zabbix 5.4.7
    • vCentre 7.0.1
I have followed various online step by step guides, and figured that most are a little out of date (e.g. Macro {$USERNAME} vs {$VMWARE.USERNAME}.

    So,

I've checked that the dependencies are in place and all looks good for the basic setup of a host, using the built in VMware template, but the zabbix_server.log reveals an incorrect username/password for the host (which is using the VMware template, which uses the VMWare Macros template, which has the Macro settings {$VMWARE.USERNAME}, {$VMWARE.PASSWORD} AND {$VMWARE.URL}.

The Zabbix_Server.conf cache entry has been changed since the few switches already setup required it, so gone for 128MB.

The zabbix_server.log, with log level increased to warning (3) reports that the item host : event log: became not support: Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password

I've tried setting up the template macro with various username password combos/formats, but always the same log entry (eventually).

The username and passwords allow me to sign in to vCentre from the VMware web console just fine, so suspect there is some other issue.

The Question: Basically, if anyone out there has Zabbix 5.4 and vSphere (ESXi 7.6 & vCentre 7.01) working, could you tell me what I might have wrong that prevents Zabbix from talking to vCentre?

    Many Thanks in advance!

Same here. I see these errors in Zabbix web interface, although login and password are correct. I also can see fetched data from vCenter in the "Latest data".
