History Management Suggestions

I'm new to Zabbix and like the tool overall. However, the history table growth, even on small environments, is quite substantial. Are there any easy settings to keep the growth under control? I understand there are housekeeping features, but I would like to cut down the volume on the front end, not after the fact. There are some summarized data extract capabilities we will use daily so there is no need for lengthy history related table entries.

Thoughts? Or, is there a feature under consideration to limit the history data?

item config defines how long history is kept and how long trends are kept. Don't keep long history if you don't need it. Housekeeper settings besides that. You can override item config with housekeeper, so whatever is in items config will be ignored..
Depending on your DB solution you can also drop partitions with data etc.
