Determine if a host can reach the internet

How can I set a item for the monitored host to determine if it can reach the internet?

icmpping would only tell if the zabbix server could reach the host. Correct?

      correct

I thnik what dstubbs wants to know is if a monitored host can reach internet, and not the server.

first the agent must be installed on the host
then you have to make a little script that will ping and return 1 if ok or 0 if not
(or the ping time if ok and 0 if not)
then you have to add a line in the zabbix_agentd.conf on the host
this line is a UserParameter that launch the script

quite easy on linux, a bit harder on windows (i never tried win agent)
