log file monitoring on a passive agent

    Hi.

I'm trying to set an item to trap a log file text.
Most of my installed Zabbix agents are passive. Is there a way of using the log[] key with passive agents?

    Thank you.

No, that's not possible due to the way log monitoring works.
In difference to regular items a log item may return zero to many values in one item update interval. Further parsing a log file may take some time.
Thus log items are processed by the active agent process disregarding any timeouts. The process writes each log value to send into the agent's (log) buffer in memory. The memory gets asynchronously flushed when exceeding a threshold in size or of passed time.

      Hi,

Zabbix agent can operate in both modes simultaneously. What do you mean then that most of your agents are passive?

Do you have ServerActive= setting configured in your agent configuration files?

      Best Regards,
