Hi

Is it possible to to have user data in item names generated from templates?

For example I have various different items for the 48 ports on a switch. Zabbix via SNMP pulls the name out as "Inbound traffic on <Switch brand> <model>, Port #12".

I've tried writing to SNMP to set my own custom ifDescr but this one doesn't allow it. It's read-only.

It would great if I could get it to display a short string such as "firewall" or "server1" for example in the name too, to describe what the port physically has on it.

It's very confusing at the moment to look at with out much relation to what is what. Just a big list of numbers.

No ideas?

I've so far had to go as far as (due to the lack of setting map items icons related to item values rather than triggers too), using the API to draw my own web page for the status of our switch ports and for simple ability to be able to label the ports with what is in them. I really don't want to as this takes it out side of the Zabbix console

Or do I have to recreate all the port items manually so I can name them myself? (Which isn't going to happen with a 48 port switch and 7 items per port...)
