Upgrade Process to 6.0

Hi All,

Is it possible to install a fresh copy of 6 on a new server and import a database from 4.2? Or do I have to install 4.2 on new servers, import the DB and update to 6?

I would expect that to work, since when upgrading from sources you basically rebuild the executables and start them at which point they find a database with the old version. Note there are other considerations, like config files, user setups, network config, any external scripts ... basically all the stuff you might have set up in the old server that are not contained inside the database. Plus configuration settings on all the dependency products (e.g. postgresql hba for access).

According to the documentation, direct upgrade to Zabbix 6.0.x is possible from Zabbix 5.4.x, 5.2.x, 5.0.x, 4.4.x, 4.2.x, 4.0.x, 3.4.x, 3.2.x, 3.0.x, 2.4.x, 2.2.x and 2.0.x. Just make sure to watch the database upgrade progress in zabbix server log file when you first start Zabbix 6 with the 4.2 database. Also be sure to check out the "Known Issues" section in the upgrade documentation.
