Zabbix read NRPE(nagios agent)??

hi.
we have 50+ nagios NRPE agents in use with a lott of custom parameters .

The current monitoring software is nagios, it workable but......

before start converting all host to a zabbix agent is there a way that zabbix can read all current NRPE data either with a conversion or directly.??

I don't see why not. check_nagios_nrpe is a plugin exactly like the others, and zabbix is compatible with nagios plugins

I'm almost sure that no one even been thinking about implement this.
First: zabbix agent deployment procedure it is only few lines of SH
Second: even if you will have some "bindings" it will be necessary to use all nagios agent metrics over custom templates and converting those templates automatically will be not possible.
In other words using nagios agents would be huuuuge waste of time (not only from developers point of view but end users as well).

I know this topic is a bit too old, but I want to give my 5 cents for this one.
Where I'm working we were using NAGIOS and ICINGA, but those tools are a way too complicated to maintain and too easy to stop all the monitoring infrastructure with one simple error.

ZABBIX is a way more democratic tool for everyone to get into monitoring world.
For NRPE to WORK with ZABBIX you just have to this:

1) Install ZABBIX-AGENT on the machine you want to monitor and that have NRPE installed;
2) Create the HOST as normal/usual on your ZABBIX-SERVER WEB GUI - assemble a template (e.g: Template OS Linux by Zabbix agent) to make it available;
3) Create a NEW ITEM for the HOST and you have 2 options:

a) Choose TYPE: External Check - Point the "Key" to the NRPE command line SCRIPT;

OR, my favourite and elegant one:

b) Configure a UserParameter on you zabbix_agent/zabbix_agent2.conf that point a "key" tou your NRPE script;


UserParamerter=check.http.host, /usr/lib64/nagios/plugins/check_tcp -H hostname -p 80
UserParameter=check.total.procs, /usr/lib64/nagios/plugins/check_procs -w 150 -c 180

UserParameters are mounted as:

- key, command to execute

Dont forget to restart ZABBIX AGENT;


With that said, head into the ZABBIX SERVER WEB GUI and you just have to create a normal ZABBIX AGENT check and insert the new key

That is already a very specific procedure... if you do not understand it, you should start with reading Zabbix docs, so you understand the terms used and after that follow the instructions given.... One cannot really expect pages long instructions like press here and press there...
