    Exclude Host Group from trigger

    Zabbix 5.0.4

I've tried maintenance schedules and macros but can't find a way to exclude a specific host.group from my new trigger. I have a group of about 1400 servers that are part of a template. I created a new service.info item and set a trigger but I want to exclude about 20 servers from the trigger. Is there a way to create an exemption for a host.group from a trigger?

You can exclude entire host groups from actions, so that no action is taken when a trigger generates a problem event, but if the 20 "special" hosts are part of the same host group as all the other hosts, then excluding based on host group membership is probably not what you want to do.

What will likely be more useful to you is tags. You can set a special tag for your monitored item and use the presence or absence of the tag in various logic checks.

Check the documentation on tags for more info on how they may be used.

PS: Even for a long-term support version like the 5.0.x LTS, a lot of times there are many useful bugfixes (and security fixes) in later point releases in the series. You might want to review the release notes for Zabbix 5.0.5 through 5.0.20, to see if there are any important fixes that would benefit your environment. It might be beneficial to upgrade to 5.0.20. Or it's possible there's nothing useful for your environment between 5.0.5 and 5.0.20, but I would definitely recommend looking into it.
