SNMP Monitoring

Hello all,

Any recommended tutorial on SNMP setup ?
The documentation on the zabbix website isn't clear enough and I'm looking for a step-by-step setup.

I couldn't understand if my zabbix installation come pre-configured to start gather SNMP or do I need to config it.

At the moment when setting a new host to use SNMP (IP:161) and using a Generic SNMP Template nothing happen - the SNMP icon stay grey.

Hi,

do you install snmp and snmpd on your host?

This is my step-by-step tutorial (on your host), if you use linux (especially ubuntu):

# Update package list
sudo apt-get update

# Install SNMP Server
sudo apt-get install snmpd snmp

# Edit configuration file
sudo vi /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf

# Comment
#agentAddressudp:127.0.0.1:161

#Uncomment
agentAddressudp:161,udp6:[::1]:161

# Add Community String
rocommunity zabbix

# Restart the SNMP service
sudo service snmpd restart


After that do not forget to set the same snmp community (in this case zabbix) at your template or host.
