How do I? Increase fonts?

Created several maps, but the 'problems' are in text so small that my old eyes have trouble reading it. Is there a file somewhere I could modify to make the text from like 8 to 12? I googled it and found an article from 2007 but it doesn't appear to be valid anymore.
