Where is the check now/ execute now button?

    Hi,

I'm pretty new to zabbix and having trouble getting connected to a zabbix agent on a machine that I'm trying to monitor.
The interface is a little confusing and I have not been able to see when (of if at all) the checks are being initiated by the server. Now in Zabbix 5, there is this new function "execute now", which is supposed to check right now and show the results. I'm monitoring the agent log file to see any attempts of the server.

    Additional questions:
    1. Is there a command that I can run on the server itself to try to connect to an remote agent?
    2. Can active and passive monitoring (as set in the agent) be used at the same time? or is it mutually exclusive?

    Thanks,

    Markus

Check now / execute now works for passive checks only. You should check under "Latest data", if something is found. If something is really wrong, items turn to "Not supported" state, which is visible under config-> hosts-> items and you should also see error message there, hovering mouse over that red exclamation mark. Under that item list you should also see that execute now button.
Default log does not show you attempts, you should run debug log for that (and in case of active items, its agent log on host, not server log or agent log on server).

    Additional Questions...
    1. yes, you can try with zabbix_get (again, passive items, you cannot force zabbix_get to use log or logrt items)
    2. yes, you can use active and passive items at the same time. It is the matter, who initiates the check, is it agent itself or server/proxy.
