Ping Client over VPN not working

    Hello Guys,

i want to monitor a specific client computer via icmpping. I have a server on-site which is pinging the client every minute and its working.
Now i want to check the availabliity ov the client pc over a vpn so i installed the openvpn client on a server of mine and installed a zabbix agent on it and assigned the icmpping item to it to ping the client over the vpn tunnel.
When i check the availability via command line i always get an answer from the client pc over the vpn tunnel.
Now when i setup the icmpping item to ping this address zabbix always responds with a 0 = ping fails.

What am i doing wrong or os there something i need to setup for the agent to ping over the vpn tunnel?

    Thanks in advance.

Can you ping that computer over the VPN?

If not, make sure you're publishing the VLANs on the VPN Tunnel?

I understand you're allowing ICMP from the client of yours and ICMP returns a successful ping, so it seems to me that the issue resides in the VPN tunnel.

i can ping the client pc via windows command line and get a reply.
in the vpn settings are no restrictions wen it comes to any traffic.

https://www.zabbix.com/documentation.../simple_checks says: "Zabbix server/proxy is responsible for the processing of simple checks (making external connections, etc)."

I understood from the explanation that the pinging server is not the Zabbix server, thus it doesn't work.

But, if you can install Zabbix proxy on that server, then you can outsource the pinging to the Zabbix proxy. This is very common practice to get multiple viewpoints to a network: install Zabbix proxies to various places.

(Edit: Oops just saw that you are using Windows on that server, then you are out of luck with Zabbix proxy)
