SNMP issue to monitor Dell Managed Switch

    Hello,

In Zabbix 2.2 I imported 3 templates for Dell PowerConnect switches and I was able to monitor/receive data from my 5548 Dell switch from Zabbix 2.2 SNMP.

Now I've stood up a brand new install of Zabbix 3.0 and I've imported in the same 3 PowerConnect templates. I've setup the Host configuration the exact same for my Dell 5548 Switch on my Zabbix 3.0 like I did on my 2.2 version. But the Zabbix 3.0 only returns part of the data?

I have a stacked switch but Zabbix 3.0 only sees/reports data on one switch.
Zabbix 3.0 gives me no interface data whatsoever?

I'm looking for advice on how I debug the differences in what the template is looking for between Zabbix 2.2 and Zabbix 3.0? Where do I start to look at finding a solution? I'm assuming that something has changed in Zabbix 3.0 that means the templates I've imported are not correct now.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Please try to uncheck the Use bulk requests in SNMP interface of the host settings.

      Thank you for this reply.

Sadly I did not have the bulk requests checked for this host.

Would there be other reasons why this would work in 2.2 and not 3.0?

I would export example templates from both 2.2 and 3.0 and compare what's changed w.r.to. tags/headers.
Worst case, start creating the items manually, provided required SNMP Key/OID/Community strings are known.

        Thanks.

Just want to clarify what you are suggesting.

"export example templates from both 2.2 and 3.0"

Are you saying to export the PowerConnect Templates I've imported into both my Zabbix 2.2 and my Zabbix 3.0? If not...then what example templates are you referring to please.

Is there a log perhaps in Zabbix that may lead me to why I'm getting no Interface data on my Dell Switch in Zabbix 3.0?

          Thank you.

            Hello,

I've been doing more digging on this. I can definitely see from my Zabbix 3.0 server all my interfaces. When I issue the following:

            snmpwalk -v2c -c public 192.168.1.xxx .1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.1

Where I used the proper IP for my switch. All 48 ports of both by 2 stacked switches (so 96 in total) are shown in the walk.

So I removed the PowerConnect Templates I had been using for my switch and used the generic interfaces template that comes with Zabbix - Template SNMP Interfaces. And this template also doesn't for me in that none of my network ports are displayed in Zabbix? I have my {$SNMP_COMMUNITY} set properly.

I'll keep digging but I can't see what else I'm missing. In Zabbix 2.2 I had my switch ports, all 96 of them, showing me all the transfers back and forth within an hour of setting up the host. So far no luck in Zabbix 3.0.

Any advice this community can give me is greatly appreciated.

            Thank you.

              Not sure what's missing here.
Since default 'Template SNMP Interfaces' isn't working for you, why don't you create a custom discovery rule , with ifDescr as key , IF-MIB::ifDescr as OID, and add Traffic details as item prototype to see if you are getting data.
Yes, i meant you download/export both 2.2 and 3.0 templates and do a diff to find out if anything has changed (there may be possibilities of tags/headers/way of discovery might got changed).

              Thanks.

It must have been user error (me). I've re-added the host and used the generic interfaces template for SNMP and this time it works.

My PowerConnectInterfaces template still isn't working but I can compare the generic interfaces with it and see what the problem is.

Thanks for your assistance with this thread.

                  Dell switch template

                  Hi!

Did you ever succeed in getting a working template for zabbix 3.0?
If yes, would you mind posting that to this thread?

I guess I'm digging for the same things you've already gone through.

                  Thanks in advance
