HowTo Upgrade to Zabbix 6.0.8 on Debian 11

    Hi there,

I'm afraid this is a stupid question but I am stuck.

I try to update our zabbix from 6.0.6 to 6.0.8

I don't know which repo to download that includes 6.0.8

With the repos I found in the documentation it always says 6.0.6 ist the current version.

I found that in https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/6.0/d...main/z/zabbix/ there is newer content but in https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/6.0/d...abbix-release/ there are only files from June 2022.

I don't know that much about Linux and repos and don't want to destroy my installation (of course I have a backup).

I am looking forward to 6.0.8 since we have a lot of OPNsense firewalls to monitor.

Thanks a lot for any help and advice!

    Best regards,

    Thomas

I'm not a Debian or Ubuntu user, so I don't know 'apt' and related tools nearly as well as I know rpm and yum/dnf for RPM-based systems, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

If you're already running Zabbix 6.0.6, you shouldn't need to install a new "repo" package to point your package management system to new repos. The packages you need for 6.0.8 should be in the same repo(s) your system is currently pointing to.

You only need to download a new package that defines a new repo when you want your package management system to start looking for a new feature-release of Zabbix, for example 6.2.x, 6.4.x, or 7.0.x

The same commands you would use to update a batch of Debian packages should be the commands you use to update Zabbix from 6.0.6 to 6.0.8. I assume that's probably 'apt-get update' or perhaps just 'apt-update' with a list of zabbix packages, without any versions.

      Hi,

thank you for your reply. I am still not able to perform the minor upgrade.

After I use "sudo apt update" and "sudo apt install --only-upgrade 'zabbix-*'"

      I still get:

zabbix-agent is already the newest version (1:6.0.6-1+debian11).
zabbix-apache-conf is already the newest version (1:6.0.6-1+debian11).
zabbix-frontend-php is already the newest version (1:6.0.6-1+debian11).
zabbix-release is already the newest version (1:6.0-1+debian11).
zabbix-server-mysql is already the newest version (1:6.0.6-1+debian11).
zabbix-sql-scripts is already the newest version (1:6.0.6-1+debian11).

When I install the repo it says: "zabbix-release"

When I look through the repo in the browser there is no newer version under "zabbix-release".
Only when I go to "zabbix" there are newer files.

      What should I do now?

Thanks a lot for your help!

      Best regards,
      Thomas

Try to download a newer version of zabbix-release and then update. (zabbix-release_6.0-3+debian11_all.deb)

          Hi!

I think I found the error.

There was no zabbix.list under /etc/apt/sources.list.d anymore.

I think it should have been added with the wget ... and the dpkg /i ... command. But it didn't.

So I made a new one and pasted

          deb https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/6.0/debian bullseye main
          deb-src https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/6.0/debian bullseye main

After that I ran apt update and the command to only upgrade zabbix packages.

Zabbix is running and it is version 6.0.8.

Thanks a lot for your help.

          Best regards,

          Thomas

That entry in /etc/apt/sources.list.d comes from package zabbix-release. You can remove that file and install it instead:

          Code:
          wget https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/6.0/debian/pool/main/z/zabbix-release/zabbix-release_6.0-3%2Bdebian11_all.deb
          dpkg -i zabbix-release_6.0-3+debian11_all.deb
          rm -f zabbix-release_6.0-3+debian11_all.deb
          sudo apt update
For details see step 2.a in https://www.zabbix.com/download?zabb...ysql&ws=apache

            Hi Dimir,

first, since you are a developer, I want to say thank you for this great piece of software!

I tried these steps already yesterday. That didn't work out.

Maybe there is something wrong with my installation.

However, since it is working now, everything is fine again.

I am waiting for the opnsense template. It seems there are some issues left.

Thanks a lot for your help.

            Best regards,
            Thomas

Looks like you are referring to what is mentioned here at the end: https://support.zabbix.com/browse/ZBXNEXT-7520 and the actual fix will be in https://support.zabbix.com/browse/ZBXNEXT-7962 , you are welcome to follow it in order to get a notification when it's done. :-)
