    Items depencies

    Hello!

Is there any way to use depencies for items.

    For example such situation:

If process httpd isn't running no need to check sites, for this server, bcoz it makes queue full.
I saw depencies only for trigger.

Does it make any sense to implement dependencies on item level apart of theoretical gain in performance?

      Hello, Alexei!

Yes, it make, i had such problem:

Clients were running on few web servers which were too overloaded, so Zabbix-server couldn't connect to client to get data, but host was reachable.
So, my other check for alive servers wasn't process in time (some *.nodate()) and i had a lot of spam from Zabbix that clients are down.
There is no sense to make a lot of checks for client if some item can't perform.

For example, if i have 15 items for host and 4 second timeout. Server spend 60 seconds for host instead of 4 seconds for one basic check.

Yes, i've solved this problem by using active checks.

But, i it should be included in future releases.

        Thank You!

my vote for item dependencies.. (queue priorities)

i guess that itemdependencies would be a great deal. i encountert the same problem described above if a customers switch goes down. my zabbix queue raises up to about 200 checks and no other _status_ & _icmpping_ checks are done on any other customers lines, boxes etc. in other words, one big device goes down, and my monitoring is worthless . (i have a backup strategy, but i would like to get rid of this bigbrother).

another idea would be queue priorities. if queue is raising, zabbis_server should focus on severity (disaster,high,average...)

Host dependencies would also be a nice feature to have.

            Regards.
