    IBM ts4300 tape library

    Hi,

I am looking for a template to monitor the following physical device

    IBM ts4300 tape library

I can't find anything to be able to monitor tape libraries.

    Any ideas?

    Hello,

I can see that the post is not recent but I hope that a solution has been found. I have exactly the same question as wopumova.

    Can you have a solution or a work-around ?

    Thank you for your time.

Most tape libraries support SNMP, at least SNMP polling but in the case of larger libraries SNMP traps too.

There may not be any pre-defined "template" for this particular library, but if you have access to the SNMP MIBs for that library, you can probably decide what data you want to collect about the library and what triggers are important for you environment.

You probably want to spend some time reviewing the MIBs and using tools like snmpwalk and snmpget to examine various OIDs.

Even if there isn't a pre-defined template for your specific library, you may be able to find SNMP templates for other devices that can serve as an example for how you might define your own template of things to monitor about your library.

I generated a template with mib2zabbix some time ago, then did little with it. It IS polling my ts4300s tho.
There are a bunch of items I left disabled, and I'm not sure if useful metrics were overlooked or not included in the MIBs so YMMV. At least this can be a starting point.

Thanks a lot for the file, I imported it this morning on my Zabbix server and everything works perfectly.
I'm still curious though, how did you manage to create the YAML file from the mib file?
I had read about it on the internet but I didn't understand how to get the OID library to generate it with the script.
If you have more information, I'm interested.

        Thanks again for your answers

mib2zabbix scripts, populating the /usr/share/mibs (IIRC) with all the relevant mibs first.
Check the use cases and examples in mib2zabbix docs. Also, beware that I THOUGHT I remembered reading the Zabbix templates are changes in 7.x and this template may need much updating??? I'm sorry, I don't have time to dig that up again.

mib2zabbix creates templates in (very) old format... output will not work with version 5+, IIRC. Might be possible to adapt, but with a lot of manual work.
