    Update procedure best practice

    Hi,

I'm currently running Zabbix 6.0.8 on Ubuntu 20.04. I have a problem with SNMPv3 not working with SHA. That problem is know according to the forum.

I want to update to 6.2 on 22.04, on a different machine.

I have this part up and running, meaning I have an Ubuntu 22.04 with a clean Zabbix 6.2 installed.

Are there best practices for taking the old database and converting it to the new server? There is already a lot of data on the old installation that i want to keep.

I can for example first build a 22.04 machine, install 6.0.8 on it, copy the database and run updatescripts on that? Or are there better ways? Has anybody got experience with this?

Yeah, this is quite normal need: always before upgrading the production instance take a dump of the database and practice and test it on another server.

On MariaDB/MySQL the database can be dumped with mysqldump -u zabbix -p --single-transaction zabbix | gzip > zabbix.sql.gz
(It asks the password of the "zabbix" user)

Importing it on the new server: gunzip -c zabbix.sql.gz | mysql -u zabbix -p zabbix
(This assumes you have created an empty "zabbix" database with a username of "zabbix")

After that you can start the new Zabbix server process and it will upgrade the database automatically. It is not necessarily needed to install 6.0.8 first on the new server, you can go straight to 6.2.3 there. If you encounter any issues, you can always rebuild the new server and try again, if nothing else helps.
