In my initial overview screen the names of the hosts are on the horizontal they were so without changing any settings I want to put them upright again any idea how to do this?

This is reported bug.
ZBX-10170 : Column names in Overview are not vertical
Perhaps, this problem will fix at next release.
Zabbix 3.0 can be displayed properly. -
