What allows a template item to be tested or not?

Hello Forum,

I'm using Zabbix 6 LTS.

I'm using a template to monitor Proxmox Backup Server - https://github.com/ismvru/zbx-tmplt-pbs. I'm still working through the necessary permissions required through the API Token and I am able to get some data out of this template through my API Token.

But in looking at the latest data I see some items that do not have a value listed so I went into the configuration of that item to test it but the Test button is greyed out. What in a template allows an item to be tested or not? See the picture below of what I'm seeing.

Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

This is dependent item. It gets updated, when your "main item" gets data. You can "test" it from your preprocessing steps, by providing original data there and "test all steps".
You cannot also test "active agent item", as there is no mechanism to signal agent to collect that data "now" and send back results.

Thanks cyber, yes that makes sense. This item is dependent on another item - PBS: Failed tasks where I'm having a permission issue related to my API Token (still working through that problem). Thank you for explaining this to me cyber. Much appreciated!
