How to upgrade Zabbix 5.2.6 to 6.2 (intranet)

    Hi,

I am a system engineer a state agency from greece. We're working private network and I check my systems with zabbix 5.2.6 but i want to upgrade to 6.2 btw zabbix running at Debian GNU/Linux 10(buster) but I agreed on how to do it. I can't move my zabbix server to open network (internet) because I am working in a closed network. I need to do the necessary upgrade in closed network. https://www.zabbix.com/documentation.../debian_ubuntu it says in this link
    # wget https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/6.2/d...bian11_all.deb
    # dpkg -i zabbix-release_6.2-1+debian11_all.deb
It's very easy this way, but I can't use it because I'm on the internet. Is there anyone who can help? If you have any questions, I can answer them here. Thanks.

    Hi Stanley!

You're right that the most visible documentation assumes that you can directly download a package that defines a new remote software repository. That's the easiest way for most sites, where their system can reach the Internet and the Zabbix repo.

For systems with no Internet access, though, it's still possible to install Zabbix. The basic overview of what you need to do is
    1. use a web browser on a system with access to the Internet, even if it's a Windows desktop system, to browse the repo and download the individual Zabbix packages you need
    2. copy all those packages to some kind of physical media (a USB stick formatted in something like FAT32 so the Linux server can read it, a data CD you can burn, or whatever) that you can bring to the Zabbix server that has no network access.
    3. mount the physical media (USB stick, data CD, or whatever you used) on the Linux server.
    4. use the package management commands on the Linux server currently running 5.2.6 to upgrade the existing zabbix* packages with the ones that are on the physical media.

As far as which packages you need, use your package management commands to get a list of the zabbix-related 5.2.6 packages that are currently installed, and then find the 6.2.x equivalents to those.

That's the basics. Do you need more detailed instructions than that, or is that enough?

Make sure your OS and other software meets the requirements for 6.2 first!

        Hi tim.mooney!

First of all, thank you for your descriptive answer. The information you provided certainly helped me, but I need more detailed information.

        1) Can I upgrade the system directly from 5.2.6 to 6.2?
        2) If I cannot upgrade directly to 6.2, should I upgrade step by step? For example; do i need to upgrade to 5.4 first, then 5.6 and 6.0?
        3) From where and with which commands should I download the package?
        4) I am using Debian 10 database version 10.3.27-MariaDB-0-deb10u1. How should I update/upgrade this database? Is there a website or document that can guide me in this regard?

These are the questions that come to my mind for now. I use Zabbix actively in my business but I don't know much about upgrading so thank you very much for your help. Have a nice day.

In theory, yes, you can upgrade from 5.2 to 6.2... but not on debian10. Zabbix 6.2.x requires you to have at least debian11..
