is it possible to customize one of the hosts that use one template

i have some hosts use a ms sql server template. there is an item to check the sqlserver listen port. the template's default key is 1433.

is it possible to make one of these hosts to check a different port like 5566 instead of 1433 but not to effect other hosts?

looking for any advices.

The best way is to change the value in the template to a macro, create a global macro for the default, and then a host specific macro for the unusual host(s). As most templates do for the SNMP community string, if you want an example.

This way you are not creating host specific items or triggers, you are still using only the templated items.
