Looking for a way to use encryption on host-prototypes

    Hi all,

I have been trying to create a host prototype that has encryption enabled. The template I want to edit is the VMware template. I noticed the encryption options were greyed out. I have tried creating my own template and discovery rules but here I found the same limitation. I found the following feature request/bug request. This request has been closed without a good explanation. The link provided in the comments does not exist anymore.

After searching for similar forum posts I found someone who had the same problem back in 2021. Sadly no response was given to this person.

Can someone explain why this is not working or what I am doing wrong?

Given link tries to point to russian language page... https://www.zabbix.com/documentation.../vm_monitoring this one works.. But it wont really help you...

I can kind of understand, why it is not editable, if agent interface is set to "inherited", as then it will be same as for the host, where it is inherited.. But in case of "custom", I don't see a reason, why you should not be able to configure it for that prototype (not for a host, that is created, as it is a clone of prototype)... but its not available in some reason..

I do understand that when you discover a host you are going to monitor that host with api/snmp most likely. These protocols already have encryption meaning it would be pointless to add an agent on top of that monitoring. In the case of vmware this is different. We monitor servers through VMware. VMware can not provide us with al the information we need (service/application level) so for these high prio servers we would need to add an agent to monitor these items/applications. I wanted to add the psk on the these discovered hosts but this didn't work sadly. The use case is pretty specific but I cannot be the only person running into this problem. It is possible to add a seconds host in zabbix but I am not a fan of multiple hosts in zabbix pointing to the same device.
