AutoRegistration Using Zabbix Agent

Hi,

I was wondering if i could get some guidance on how auto registration works in Zabbix.

I have deployed the agent on two separate hosts, one of which i added manually in Zabbix and show the green 'ZBX' symbol in the host list. The other asset i installed it on i tried using the discovery rules to find.

I set the rule to discover assets within an IP range that i know the assets resides in and set the conditions to show TCP port's 443, 80 and Zabbix agent. The discovery rule has picked up multiple assets in that ip range and is showing the TCP ports, however the asset with the Zabbix agent on is not in the list. Am i missing something here?

I have checked the asset on which i installed the agent and the Zabbix service is running.

How do get assets to report to the Zabbix server once installed. Can it be done? I don't really want to add all hosts manually if i dont have to.

I have also seen posts about setting up actions within configuration, but my Zabbix does not display a configuration section on the left? Just the following:-

• Dashboards
• Monitoring
• Services
• Inventory
• Reports
• Datacollection
• Alerts
• Users
• Administration

A lot questions i know but i'm new to Zabbix and it seems like a really good product, i just want to make sure im setting it up correctly.

That ip discovery is ok for things like network devices and maybe printers etc.. If you already installed an agent, set up autoregistration actions and let that take care of host creation https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...o_registration
It is most painless.

I really-really suggest making friends with manual... it may be long but it does contain 99% of answers..

For autoregistration, In the configfile of your clients, you should add a "HostMetadata" variable like this:

HostMetadata=Windowsservers

Then, you can add a condition in the autoregistration action where any server with this metadata "Windowsservers" should be added.
Finally, in the "Operations" tab, add what the server should do to the monitored server. Which groups to be added to etc..

Thats pretty much it.

Thanks for your replies guys. Apologies for the delayed response, i have been busy diving headfirst into Zabbix!

I managed to get the AutoRegistration with PSK working using the 'HostNameItem' = system.hostname and setting up rules on Zabbix to look for key letters in the asset name.
