Deploy proxy on a monitored host?

Excuse me if this is a dumb question, but can the proxy role coexist with the monitored host role?

I have been assigned the task of monitoring a remote site with 5 VM, 2 of which are Ubuntu Linux.

In insisted in deploying a new VM to act as active proxy, but the management doesn't want to install another machine.

Can I deploy a proxy on one of the production VMs, and at the same time install an agent and monitor it with proper templates?

Yes. I normally used "dedicated" proxies, just a Linux box that ran both a proxy and agent service. The agent could either point to the main server or to local host. I used the latter so I verified data collection immediately.

You can run multiple proxies on the same host as long as they have different databases and ports. Hypothetically, if you a proxy on a network segment, you could use a second proxy for testing so you could get access to the same network without having to get another host allowed. (I know it works, but no one else does here!)
