    Host down alert

How can I configure alter when host is down?

When I have SNMP monitored host that is down I see in Hosts "Timeout while connecting to <IP>" but my dashboard is all green. ...how can I report this, create triger/alert?

Same when Zabbix Agent monitored host is down. Then I get error Zabbix agent unreachable but not error on dashboard. I want to know when host is down.

    Thank you

    Hi Brano!
In order to get alerts, few things need to be done.
    So,
    1. check you have some active Media type configured (Administration - Media types). https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...ications/media
    2. configure Administration - Users (select user) - Media for the same communication type.
    3. Based on Items you collecting from devices, configure Trigger (problem definition). As example: generate warning, if SNMP check have no data in last 5 minutes. https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...onfig/triggers
    4. configure an action to generate message if Problem detected (Configuration - Actions)

Do not worry, everything, except Triggers need to be configured just once.
To simplify future setup, it is recommended to configured Triggers on Templates (not directly to hosts).
Hope this information will help you.

      Thank you.

I have e-mail alerting configured and working fine.

My main problem is when SNMP host is down. As you said I can either create trigger on nodata() or, as I've researched elsewhere, internal check on zabbix[host,<type>,available] may be even better.

...I'll give both options a try, thanks for the info.

Yes. You are right. If you would like to receive message when connection using one of protocols is down can use Internal Checks.
        Just configure Trigger and Actions.
        Regards,

So I ended up with Zabbix internal check

          Item Key:
          zabbix[host,snmp,available]

          Trigger:
          {Template SNMP Device:zabbix[host,snmp,available].last(5m)}=0

...seems to be working as expected.
