Custom Scripts execution by agent on Windows

We are looking into replacing our Nagios with Zabbix

Got quite an extensive development of the custom batch and powershell scripts, calling for the 3rd-party code executions and submitting results back to Nagios via its API

If we were to migrate these to Zabbix, what would be the best practice approach, and where to start?

All good suggestions from Peter. I would also add the documentation for zabbix_sender and (Zabbix) trapper items: https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...mtypes/trapper

Just don't overdo using trapper items. Those are mainly for cases where generating the data for the item isn't something you want to do via a query from the agent (maybe it takes a really long time to generate, or it's easier to hook zabbix_sender directly into your application than having the agent probe your application to get the data).

Most custom script items should likely be called from the Zabbix agent/agent2 as UserParameter items, as Peter has suggested.
