Traffic from network switch (Allied Telesis) - How to?

    Hello,

we are using Nagios since around 4 years and looking for another system to setup the service in the browser.

At the moment I play with Zabbix 3.0.4 in a test-envorement and would add our "Network Switch" from Allied Telesis to get the traffic from all Ports.

For this I created a new host and added the "SNMP interfaces", I also changed the macro "{$SNMP_COMMUNITY}" to our used value. And I added the template "Template SNMP Device".

Sadly, but I can not connect to the switch. What is wrong? Should I take another template? If so, how can I add it? (I found some templates, but no manual witch explains how to use setup it.)

    Thanks in advance.

With a new device it is always best to start running snmpwalk against the device and see visually whether it is answering at all, and what's available on it. The Allied Telesis switches I used a lifetime ago were dumb with no SNMP, but I have no idea about today. The switch needs to be prepared to answer SNMP, you need to know the community string it is set up for (and set that in the {$SNMP_COMMUNITY} macro, and see if the template has appropriate stuff (it probably will, mostly, but only once you get past access).

If in doubt download a manual for the switch and see how to set up snmp. Once there, from unix you usually do something like:

    snmpwalk -v2c -c secretcommunitystring 10.1.2.3

If it's using "secretcommunitystring" it ought to work. That's for version 2 SNMP, it might be 1 or 3; if it's three you need more in the way of credentials.
