What is the most optimal OS to use for up to 500 hosts?

I am Installing a new zabbix server with agent and frontend. What is the most optimal OS to use for up to 500 hosts and how many processors and how much memory I should allocate to the server?

About the OS there is no recommendation but if your zabbix has to monitor 500 hosts i would use a small linux distribution like alpine
