    Monitoring physical ports

    Hi,

We are interested about Zabbix. Could you clarify if your solution has special capabilities for monitoring physical ports on a client machine?
Example : we would like to know when HDMI cables are plugged in or plugged out on a machine ?
Is it easy to define or too complicated ?
    Thanks for your answers.

If you can get the status of anything from a command, you can monitor it with Zabbix. So, can you get the info you need from a command?

      Thanks LenR for your answers.
Well, I think I need to clarify my question. I understand what Zabbix is, but I'm unsure if the solution is powerful enough to meet our needs. Is it possible to monitor physical ports natively by enabling an option? Alternatively, which command would fulfill our requirements? After extensive searching and even consulting an A.I., it appears too complex to obtain a specific value indicating whether the status is "plugged in" or "plugged out" for HDMI. We may have found part of the answer in the events log for the "plugged in" status, but not for "plugged out." Real-time information is crucial for us.

Our objective is as follows: We are a university with numerous client machines. Some of them are specially configured for students and must be operational all the time. However, regularly, some malicious individuals disconnect cables, which becomes a time-consuming issue for teachers when they have to conduct their classes. Therefore, our IT team would like to be notified when someone unplugs a cable from a physical port.

As already written, if you know what "changes" in the system when the cable is disconnected (log entries, equipment list, etc.) and you can get this information from the operating system through the command line, then you can monitor it in zabbix! In Windows, you can also monitor the Eventlog.
