    Difference between 'Discovery' and 'Auto registration' ?

    Hello all.
    I have some questions about 'Discovery' and 'Auto registration'.

    In zabbix web console, I can see 'Discovery' menu under Configuration.
    AND, under the Configuration -> Actions -> Event source, I can see another 'Discovery' option and 'Auto registration'.
    what's the difference between these two options???

    "Discovery" means that the server (or proxy) is actively scanning a network, for instance looking for passive agents that are accepting connections. "Auto registration", on the other hand, means a previously unknown agent is actively connecting to a server (or proxy) and passing it information that can be used to identify it in actions.

      Thanks for response. can I understand like this? :
      Discovery -> scaninng network so if there any server listening on zabbix agent port
      Auto registration -> "receive" informations from zabbix agent and do some action

      thanks for your help.

        Now this should clarify:

        Discovery can scan for zabbix agents OR SNMP OID's. You specify what to search in a given network range of IP's.

        Configuration -> Discovery
        It is where you set the IP's to scan and what to scan (SNMP OID or zabbix agent listening hosts)

        Actions -> Event Source -> Discovery
        It is where Zabbix decides what to do when it finds devices from the above Config -> Discovery. You can make it send you an email of what it finds or add it to hosts and templates, etc., etc.,

        Auto registration -> Does not scan or Does not depend on Config -> Discovery
        Agents will send its IP and Hostname to zabbix server, just reporting that such a host exists. You might see them in the logs.

        You can create a condition and add these new hosts to a group or template and email you about it. Not much can be done here other than that. But discovery action (Actions -> Event Source -> Discovery) can do a lot of stuff from what it discovers. Play around... Check logs, it makes more sense. Increase Debug level if needed.
