    best way to migrate server

hello and sorry for my English.

I have to migrate my zabbix server because :
    - i have Ubuntu 14.04 out of date, no more support
    - i have zabbix 2.4.8, out of date

so what is the the best way to change server :
    1) install new server in Ubuntu xenial, install zabbix 3.0, upgrade zabbix on old server to 3.0 and migrate database to new server ?

    or

2)install new server in Ubuntu xenial, migrate database from old sever to new server, install zabbix 3.0 and do upgrade (possible ?)

    thanks for help

I've not yet done a production conversion, but I have restored my 2.4.7 database on a 3.0.4 database system, started zabbix-server for the database upgrade and connected a 3.0.4 frontend to that system several times.

This is how I'm planning our upgrade, our db backup/restore will take most of a day, I plan to let my 2.4.x system run and provide monitoring during the conversion, then switch to the 3.0.x system, leaving a hole in the history for the upgrade period.

Or if it doesn't work, my 2.4.x system can just keep running.

In my case, the servers are Redhat, if it weren't for the requirement for newer versions of the OS and packages, the in-place upgrade would probably be easy.
