Zabbix hosts and proxy servers

I have hosts that I reach through a zabbix proxy server for snmp items. There is a database I would like to reach out to for other items. However that connection needs to be direct and not go through the proxy server. Is there a way for a single host to get some items via proxy and other items not via proxy?

no... if host is assigned to a proxy, then all monitoring is done by proxy. You can always define another host, with different name and not use proxy for that, even if it turns to same existing host. Just make sure your agent config allows connections from different places.
