I see with the install of the Zabbix server that it also installs the old agent. Is anyone using the new Agent 2 on their Zabbix server or is that not necessary? Is the Agent 2 necessary on any Zabbix managed devices?

It is your own choice, which version to use. By default (or by instructions on https://www.zabbix.com/download), classic agent. But you can just as well replace it with agent2. It will give you some more items, but will do all the things that classic agent does...
I have agent2 currently as main in whole environment, no issues. -

You can run them at the same time, just need to configure different port to be used... default is 10050, you can set 11050 for other instance and compare...
But better data? if items are exactly same, then you have exactly same data..
agent2 has some more built-ins... https://www.zabbix.com/documentation.../zabbix_agent2 if you do not use those, there is no difference..
