Modification of Zabbix Templates and Its impact to Monitored Hosts

Hi All

I am very new to Zabbix, I did have a bit of a search to see if my question was answered anywhere but couldn't find anything specific.

If I have a Template, lets call it a Linux Server Template, and I use that to monitor 5 Linux servers. What will happen if I then change that template and remove some of the items it is monitoring?
Will the agents on those servers automatically stop polling for the items I have removed from the template? or do I manually have to go into each host entry in Zabbix and adjust them?

From a manageability point of view, I wanted to see how it works, so we can look at how that might impact our automation of the the monitoring process.

My 2nd question would be, is what would happen if I changed the template used for that host or multiple hosts. Would the agents then automatically change the items they are polling.

And sorry if this question has been asked before.

If you add/remove items from a template, they will be changed on all hosts using that template. The only exception can be LLD items, in prior releases anyway, sometimes changes to item prototypes didn't change where they had already been discovered. It's been awhile since I had that problem, I don't know if something changed or I've just avoided it :-)

Thankyou for that information. What do you mean by LLD items? If nothing else I could play around with a template that I have and see what it does. In theory though you are saying that the should be changed on all hosts using that template

That is the point of the template, modify in one place and it affects many hosts.
