Zabbix Sessions Are Stuck

Running Zabbix Server +Agent against linux vms with say 100 checks (items).

I noticed that each time an active check is done, the connection seems to be open for longer period of time.

Is there anything that can be done to optimize sessions made to/from zabbix_agent/server?

My session count keeps growing while fw can't support that many if I include more checks/hosts.

Passive monitoring does not scale. You must switch to active one.

Are all your agents behind a firewall? If not, you could use Zabbix proxies to limit network load to the local network.
