trying to read a log file for specific text "not supported"

Zabbix 6.4.16, running the zabbix agent on the zabbix server - Ubuntu 22.04

I have a syslog process picking up log data from my switch and I want to have the Zabbix server notice when the word WAN appears in the log file and then generate a notification of a state change on that interface.

I have tried to create an item for the log item, and a trigger using that item, but I keep getting errors.

I must be doing something dumb. Help, please?

First go to item list and check why your item is in "not supported" state... I 'm pretty sure it will tell you something about permissions...
