    Hello,

I'm a new Zabbix user, trying to get up and running for a few days.
I'm now facing on 'Zabbix server is not running' problem and seem can't find the solution to fix the problem.

    I'm using 'zabbix_appliance_3.2.1_x86_64.iso' for Ubuntu/Mysql installation.
And have been trying many time to install and get it running without problem.

Have been googling over the new but still.

    Please help.
    Thanks

    Update

No one is facing on like me? . .so sad . .

Let me update with my installation log just incase I was doing something wrong.

Zabbix installed as a guest vm under ESXi 5.5 as Ubuntu x64, 2GB Ram

    1. Preload with the appliance image : zabbix_appliance_3.2.1_x86_64.iso using default menu (which was : ubuntu+mysql)
    2. Install VMware Tools
    3. Configured as static IP
    4. Configured time zone
    5. Configured to enable SNMP & snmp-mibs-downloader, download-mibs

I've tested with 15 host to monitor then I'm facing on with this problem.

    Do I missed something?

Try starting/restarting the zabbix server process.
      CLI: service zabbix-server restart

This is my latest testing (just tested before I do this post & I've done many way to get a clean installation as much as possible just incase there will be some issues)

          1. Preload with the appliance image : zabbix_appliance_3.2.1_x86_64.iso using default menu (which was : ubuntu+mysql)
          2. Install VMware Tools
          3. Configured time zone
          4. Configured to enable SNMP & snmp-mibs-downloader, download-mibs

All configuration still remain the original even all user / password as well as using the preconfigured DHCP.

From this test I could confirm that the original iso properly having "Zabbix
server is not running' problem not from my custom configuration.

Are you sure the server isn't actually running? I mean, have you checked for server processes? Its entirely possible that the server could be running fine, but the front-end will say 'Zabbix server is not running' because the front-end is either misconfigured, or is unable to connect to the zabbix server port which is configured due to firewall rules or some other issue.

When the front-end says 'Zabbix server is not running', what it really means to say is 'Can't connect to Zabbix server', which actually a very different problem.

Jason, thanks for suggestion will check.

Wondering, I've installed with the (almost) pre-original configured values and problem still . .I'm about to update more test report.

With a minimum parameters change to narrow down anything that could cause problems.

                1. Preload with the appliance image : zabbix_appliance_3.2.1_x86_64.iso
                2. Now using menu 2 (which was : ubuntu+ PostgreSQL)
                2. Install VMware Tools
                3. Configured time zone
                4. Configured to enable SNMP & snmp-mibs-downloader, download-mibs

                5. Import template(s) / Hosts / Map

After run the system for 20min, problem shows .. still . .

Have you tried disabling the Firewall temporarily and also have a look at the Zabbix_server log and see what it says in there.

Did you check the running process ?
What's the content of your zabbix server log ?

Again, I try to test with a minimum parameters change to narrow down anything that could cause problems.

                      1. Preload with the appliance image : zabbix_appliance_3.2.1_x86_64.iso
                      2. Now using menu 2 (which was : Ubuntu+ MySQL)

                      3. Configured time zone
                      4. Configured to enable SNMP & snmp-mibs-downloader, download-mibs

                      Everything run OK.
I can created some hosts mostly using snmp_ping and snmp_device template.

                      Everything run OK.
Until I configured the my 4 x Cisco switches with snmp_ping and snmp_device template and put on Macros with {$SNMP_COMMUNITY} and 'public' value

Then the 'Zabbix server is not running' shows.

What I noticed was when the Zabbix host has more items to monitor then the problem shows.

Once problem starts showing, I check >service zabbix-server status:
it shows : zabbix_server is not running

                      - - -
                      Please suggest more thanks

                          Due to the server log:

I'm testing to put on rather the default value of CacheSize to 16M
                          on the /etc/zabbix/zabbix_server.conf file.

It's seem to be working now, test more ..
