sending email to zabbix

Hello. I have a saas application that sends an alert via email only. I'd like to keep track of those alerts in zabbix. Is there a way I can do this?

Not sure if this can be done natively with zabbix. In my setup, I have created a simple PHP script to parse messages sent to a specific mailbox, and then call the zabbix API or zabbix_sender to update zabbix items.
