    use of a printer template

I found on internet a template which could be usable for my Brother MFC-8890DW printer (https://github.com/coreyramirezgomez...abbix-Template).
But I don't know how to use it, to install it, etc.
Could a specialist explain the steps:
    - where to store it ?
    - how to call it

    Hi,

    steps by your reference :
    1. Import the http_simple_check.xml
    2. Import the brother-printers-zabbix-template.xml

first you need to import the XML, download it
    'brother-printers-zabbix template.xml'
    same for "http_simple_check.xml"

go to ->Configuration -> Templates and on the right corner press Import
there choose the xml which you download and import it - if it gives you errors
    you can stop there.

    3. Create a host and link the brother-printers-zabbix-template to it.
you need to create snmp host with your printer IP.
First, you need to open SNMP at your printer. the thing that is important there is the community name.

after you did that you need to set zabbix Macro to the community name that you have set to the printer.

    4. Set the $COMMUNITY macro string to your SNMP Community if you have one, otherwise it will use the default.

macros can be found at : Administration - > General - > at the right drop down menu choose Macros there set $COMMUNITY to be the community name you set at the printer , defult will be public

Thank you but that doesn't work.
Probably because my printer is configured with snmpv3 ?

The snmp icon is always red for the host.

I tried this: I defined three macros for the host:
          $snmp_secname,$snmp_auth,$snmp_priv

          I also tried: snmp -v3 -l authPriv -u <username> -a MD5 -A <password1> -x DES -X <password2> 192.168.1.32:161
          answer is "bad context specified"

Note that I use the vm appliance.
I also installed snmp and snmpd but had nothing configured.

Note: I can access to my printer with the Paessler tool.

Note 2: my macros are unuseful because the template doesn't use them !

            what is snmp command ?
            maybe snmpwalk or snmpget ?

            try :

            snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u <username> -a MD5 -A <password1> -x DES -X <password2> 192.168.1.32:161 sysName

and are you sure your device set to port 161 or 162 ?

and about snmp install, this is what i have at a centos machine :
            net-snmp-devel-5.5-57.el6_8.1.x86_64
            net-snmp-utils-5.5-57.el6_8.1.x86_64
            snmptt-1.4-1.el6.noarch
            net-snmp-libs-5.5-57.el6_8.1.x86_64
            net-snmp-5.5-57.el6_8.1.x86_64
            net-snmp-perl-5.5-57.el6_8.1.x86_64
            net-snmp-python-5.5-57.el6_8.1.x86_64

try to open logs at your printer
and by the way - cant you change it to snmp V2 ?

Sorry I didn't write correctly the command: it was snmpwalk

I tried snmpget ... sysName as you suggested: same answer + sub-id not found -> sysName

From a windows machine I can run the Passler "SNMP tester": the 161 and 162 port are reachable ?
ipTables -L in the Zabbix machine show "accept anywhere anywhere".

I didn't check the rest of your proposition.

              Note 1: netcat -zv 192.168.1.32 161 connection refused !!!!
Note 2: i did apt-get install snmp snmp-mibs-downloader snmpd, I edited snmp.conf and commented the line mibs, I run downloads-mibs and finally restart the zabbix server.
Note 3: netstat -uanp | grep ":161" gives nothing

                  I found the solution

https must be enabled in order to use the snmp v3 protocol with the MFC8890DW printer !
