MSSQL plugin with Zabbix Agent2 Active

I am trying to set up the MSSQL plugin with Zabbix Agent2 Active. When trying to apply the MSSQL plugin template to the host, it tells me that it cannot because the host does not have an Agent interface. The issue is, this host is an Active host, connected to the Zabbix proxy through a firewall (Active agent is on the Public side of the firewall, Proxy is on the private side).

The Active agent is working as I am successfully getting data for all non MSSQL entries (using the Windows by Zabbix agent active template). As such, I know my configuration for the active agent is good and working. Is there a "MSSQL by Zabbix agent 2 active" template that I need?

Does the MSSQL plugin require passive checks, or is it possible to get it to work through the Active agent also? I have over 50 remote locations with SQL servers I am trying to monitor. None of these locations have a VPN to where the proxy is, and I do not want to have to set up over 50 proxies (one per location) just to have one server connect to them for MSSQL monitoring (hence the Active agent).

looking at same thing at the moment. it should be possible to edit the template and change the zabbix agent to the active agent for the items there but I'm expecting that would potentially create other issues for maintainability long term

the simple check for db connectivity is failing for me too so not sure what my options are. investigating still

did you ever come up with a solution? I hate reinventing the wheel, and agree deploying proxies to get around this isn't ideal.

yea clone the template, change all agent to agent active and the simple check to agent active. set all macro's as per examples.

Hello, I'm trying to replicate this, i imported the yaml-file of the template into zabbix, but I'm unshure of where to change "passive" to "active"... (the yaml file doesn seem to contain any active or passive) and opening the template in zabbix provides no active or opassive either, Any leads?

Thanks this is exactly the question I have. If anyone has already converted the template for download, I'd appreciate looking at it.

AH, I understand now, thanks. I have changed any agent items to agent (active).
I now receive the MSSQL Service is unavailable - The TCP port of the MSSQL Server service is currently unavailable.
I will go and look that up, as I know it's up as I can use SSMS from another server on the network.
